Simple Steps to a Fully Functioning Immune System

In light of the current climate I thought it might be helpful to give some top tips on how to keep our immune system as strong as possible. Many people will get the Coronavirus and their immune systems will bat it off like a fly, those are the people who have a robust immune system. In order for all of us to have a ninja immune system that can do this here are 5 things that we can do.

Support Your Good Bacteria our good gut bacteria helps to keep our immune system sharp and on the ball. In order to help your good gut bacteria try to

1. eat less sugar this feeds the bad bacteria

2. Eat lots of probiotic foods that feed the good bacteria leeks, onions, garlic, asparagus, sweet potatoes, chicory

3. Eat fermented foods like sauerkraut, kefir, kombucha and miso.

Keep your body moving our blood flow and hence oxygenation and delivery of nutrients and clearing out of toxins all depends on our body moving. It does not have to be hardcore exercise, it just needs to be any kind of movement go for a walk, bop around to a song, do some stretching, even if you are bound to a chair you can move your arms and legs around.

Get lots of sleep When we are asleep our body is able to increase production of T Cells. T Cells are the type of immune cell that fights against pathogens such as flu virus, Herpes and cancer cells. Sleeping regular hours also helps our body has a circadian rhythm which dictates all sorts of things like hormone levels and digestive function to name a few, so having a sleep routine is good.

Keep Hydrated not drinking enough water means that all functions of the body work sub-optimally especially the lymph which is a vital part of the immune system. If there is less lymph (due to dehydration) it is less easy to carry pathogens to the lymphocytes which are white blood cells that will destroy pathogens. You should be drinking your weight in Kgs multiplied by 0.033 this will give the daily litres of water that you should be consuming.

Laughter increases our Natural Killer cell activity these cells are best known for killing virally infected cells so we want these as high as possible. Ideas for laughter or just more positivity
